Palisades Tahoe (formerly known as Squaw Valley) is famed for its steep terrain which needs a lot of snow to become operational.

Fortunately Palisade Tahoe's snowfall average is high but the Tahoe area (as a whole) is prone to occasional droughts, and it sometimes takes a while for things to get going early in the season.

In most years, however, there is plenty of snow and the resort is a magnet for powder-hounds, even if many of the top lifts remain closed during a big storm.

As with other Tahoe resorts, snow quality can be inconsistent at times, especially lower down.
